Who uses Drupal?
Drupal is used by governments, universities, healthcare organisations, major publishers, and enterprises that need a highly scalable, secure, and customisable CMS. In the UK, many government departments and councils run Drupal. Its strength is handling complex content models, large amounts of multilingual content, and strict security requirements at scale.
Should we upgrade from Drupal 7 or 8 to Drupal 10?
Drupal 7 reached End of Life in January 2025, it no longer receives security updates and should be upgraded immediately. Drupal 8 also reached End of Life in November 2021. Drupal 10 is the current stable version with LTS support. We handle the full upgrade, including custom module compatibility rewrites and content migration, as a fixed-price engagement.
What is headless Drupal?
Headless Drupal uses Drupal as a content management and data backend (accessed via its built-in JSON:API or the optional GraphQL module), with a separate frontend framework (Next.js, React, Vue) rendering the user interface. This gives you Drupal's powerful content model and editorial tools, combined with a modern, high-performance frontend. Particularly well-suited to large organisations with complex content needs and performance requirements.
How does Drupal compare to WordPress?
Drupal is significantly more powerful for complex requirements: better multi-lingual support, stronger user permission models, more structured content types, better built-in REST/JSON:API, and a more rigorous security process. WordPress is faster and cheaper for simpler sites. The typical Drupal client is a government body, university, media organisation, or enterprise, not a small business website.
How much does Drupal development cost?
A Drupal marketing site with standard content types and themes typically costs £12,000–£25,000. A complex multi-site or multilingual Drupal build with custom modules typically costs £30,000–£80,000. Drupal upgrades (7→10 or 8→10) typically cost £15,000–£40,000 depending on custom module complexity. Flat written quote after a free discovery call.
What hosting do you recommend for Drupal?
Acquia is the leading managed Drupal hosting platform (built by Drupal's founder), offering excellent performance, security scanning, and developer tools. Pantheon also supports Drupal well. For self-managed hosting, AWS or Azure with Redis, Varnish, and a CDN is a solid configuration. We configure and advise on the right stack based on your scale and budget.
